Foundation of Indian Philosophy and Culture (1500 BC - 600 BC)

Early Vedic Period

The composition of the Rigveda, the oldest religious text in the world. Society was tribal (Jana) and led by a Rajan chosen for his bravery.

Social Evolution

The transition from nomadic life to settled agriculture. The Varna system emerged, initially based on occupation but later becoming hereditary.

Later Vedic Period

Composition of the Samaveda, Yajurveda, and Atharvaveda. Kingdoms (Janapadas) grew larger, and the Iron Age led to better tools and weaponry.

The Upanishads

A shift from external rituals to internal philosophy. These texts explored the concepts of Atman (Soul) and Brahman (Universe).
